About David

As Non-Executive Director and Chair Elect, David strengthens the board’s decision-making by offering an external perspective informed by his diverse experience. With a strong commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and transformational business practices he contributes to building long-term value while ensuring outstanding business conduct.

Most recently, David was Group CEO of Charles Taylor plc, a global insurance services & technology business; during his 9-year term, the company tripled its top and bottom line, providing Total Shareholder Returns of ~400%. Working in collaboration with the leadership team and the wider business, he developed a new strategic direction: launching and rapidly growing new businesses, entering related markets, developing numerous products, services & solutions, establishing new offices globally, building sizeable new teams, and winning major clients across all businesses. He also created a strong performance culture and new talent management approach, all making it a great place to work, where 90% of employees rated the group as a great place to work that they could recommend to family and friends. He joined from specialist insurer, Beazley plc, where he was Group COO, a Group ExCo member, head of claims & underwriting teams and on the Beazley Furlonge Ltd board. Prior to that, he was an Associate Principal at McKinsey, advising financial services clients on strategic, operational and corporate finance matters.

David is Chair of PremFina, a fintech that provides premium finance; Previsico, an insurtech that predicts and mitigates flood risk globally; and Branchspace, a traveltech that provides disruptive online retailing solutions to aviation and travel suppliers, including airlines and a NED at Skyline Partners, a parametric solutions provider. He has been a NED at Standard life Savings & Elevate Portfolio Services, two of the UK’s largest investment platforms, where he chaired the risk committee; Standard Life Assurance, one of the UK’s largest insurers; Fadata, an international insurance technology company; and The Standard Club, a global P&I insurer. He also chaired Charles Taylor Managing Agency Holdings, a Lloyd’s turnkey managing agency and Charles Taylor Investment Management, an institutional asset manager. He chaired the Xchanging Review Board, overseeing core services provided by a major outsourcer to the London Market, and was on various Lloyd’s Market Association’s claims and operational committees.

David has a strong track record driving turn-arounds, scale-ups, transformations & digital innovation across financial services & insurtech.

Now a senior advisor to McKinsey & Company; David also provides consultancy services to other companies, including PE firms, insurtechs, and high-tech businesses; finally, he is a successful angel investor in various technology-related firms, focused on insurtech, biotech, healthtech, ESGtech and AI.
David is a Fellow of the Faculty and Institute of Actuaries; he also has business & risk management qualifications.
